WATER PRESERVATION

Water is considered a precious resource, especially by the local Dene and Inuit communities. The water of Lac de Gras is very pure, resembling distilled water. The preservation of lake water is crucial to maintaining wildlife within the region.

Diavik is committed to sustaining environmental and water quality. By constructing an extensive water collection system, storage ponds and reservoirs, Diavik collects run-off water, which is used in processing before being treated and released into the environment.

Borrowing a small portion of Lac de Gras during mining, temporary fish habitats are created. When the mine closes, fish will be returned to Lac de Gras ensuring there will be no loss.
